Maria Cunha

Maria Ribeiro-Cunha, MD, is a PhD candidate and physiatrist specialising in SCI rehabilitation. Her research focuses on unravelling how gut dysbiosis impacts post-SCI outcomes, including neuroinflammation and functional recovery by investigating microbial composition changes.

Maria shares her experiences from the conference.

Attending ISCoS 2024 in Antwerp was a transformative experience for my research on spinal cord injuries (SCI). It allowed me to establish valuable connections with fellow researchers and clinicians, fostering potential collaborative opportunities that will enrich my PhD project on the relationship between SCI and the gut microbiome.

Engaging with experts and attending sessions deepened my understanding of emerging research trends, specifically in neurorehabilitation and microbiome science, which will directly impact my current work and future studies.

The conference also provided access to innovative technologies and approaches, which I found particularly valuable for broadening the scope of my methodology.

The knowledge gained from ISCoS has already started shaping my approach to improving SCI health outcomes, as I integrate novel insights into ongoing projects.

This conference experience will undoubtedly enhance my ability to contribute to improving health outcomes for individuals with SCI.
