Ryan Dorrian is a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide’s SCI Research Group. Focusing on secondary complications such as neuropathic pain, bladder impairment and cognitive dysfunction, he is researching a novel electrical stimulation device to improve outcomes post-SCI.
Ryan shares his experiences from the conference.
The generous support of the Spinal Research Institute allowed me to attend the 2024 ISCoS Annual Scientific Meeting in Antwerp, Belgium. This experience has already had a profound impact on my research career. The wide range of attendees across all medical specialties provided me with a deeper insight into the range of stakeholders involved in spinal cord injury (SCI) care.
At the forefront of this, discussing our research amongst individuals living with SCI was an invaluable experience, allowing me to consider our studies from a different angle and ensure we align with the needs of the SCI community. I am excited to develop this relationship between consumers and our research group in the future.
Meeting the other grant recipients was a personal highlight. I am grateful for the friendships we made and am excited for future collaborations that may come from the event. I am thankful to the SRI for their support in making this great event possible.
